I am in a pickle on what to do about this here blog! Since I made it private one year ago I have lost many readers. I HATE that (I know LOTS of people HATE private blogs)...BUT I hate not to protect my family if needed. Soooo I am really thinking about UN-DOING my private blog and see what happens. (my hubby would be ticked if he knew this.) I want to have all that would like to read the blog read it, but due to it not letting more than 100 readers read..I am in a pickle. I wanted to invite some of my newest friends from the ward/GNO in so I erased some people that I just figured weren't reading it anymore. (was that horrible or what...I guess now I will never know.) I know that a lot of you like to read the blog but not comment and that is totally fine...but maybe leave a comment below this time so I know if you are or not.
I just deleted my own brother from the list due to: he hasn't updated their blog for a year and I have had no comments so I just figured. SOOOOOOOO is this a wrong thing for me to do, or should I just buck up and open it up again and deal with the freaky people in the world from Italy commenting on my blog?
PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE ANY INPUT!!!

Well cuz... I read your blog and enjoy keeping up with you and your cute family!! I don't know what to tell you about un privatizing though. I haven't gone private because it seems like it takes too much time and hassle to invite everyone etc.. I have something on my blog called sitemeter, and that way I can tell who visits and from where, it even gives their IP address if anything freaky happens. Check it out. xoxo

Going private definitely is a hassle, and you do loose a lot of blog readers, plus future blog readers. As long as you aren't giving out personal information (addresses, phone number... etc) I don't see a problem with it being open to anyone. I also have a tracker where I can see who views my blog. A necessity if you are open to anyone.. that way you can track who is viewing your blog.. :)

I do read your blog, but I try to comment. I don't know what to tell you. I have my blog public but I try to not have any last names, locations, or things like that on it to help protect us.. I dunno.
Thanks for the invite...My brothers don't read my blog either =) Mine is private, but I like it that way. I mostly do mine for my family and I don't have anywhere near 100 friends, so it hasn't ever been a problem!! I'd certainly try to avoid making my husband mad though! Ha ha!

You're silly. Do whatever I keep mine private and don't have a problem with it. I guess I don't have that many friends. I do it to make my book each year. So I don't have any answers.
Just quit being so darn likeable :-) You may know, or you may not know, but I am a HUGE fan of private blogs. Even if you don't use personal info, anyone can always copy any picture you put on your blog. So, if you go public and some creepo that loves kids find your blog, he can totally copy all the pictures of your kids onto his computer, then do whatever he wants with them. I know, I am totally paranoid!! You could always give the shout out on your blog that you are going to have to eliminate people's access. Then, people that don't leave you a comment within like 20 days or something, you can just delete their access. Good luck!

If you want to invite more then 100 people you can. You just have to get another e-mail address and invite your new e-mail to be a new author of the blog. Each author can invite 100 people.
You can change your comment settings to where only people in your list can comment. I think there's a way for you to be able to approve stuff and delete certain comments before they are posted.
Also...as long as you don't have your address and personal info on your blog you shouldn't have to worry to much about creeps. :) I have to keep mine open because it links to my photography blog and if I made it private no one would have a link to my photo blog. I have never has any problems. Knock on wood! :) Good Luck.

That is a dilemma...I would probably keep it private. You do what you need to do to keep your fam safe (and hubby happy;) ).
there is a way to protect people from right clicking on your photos and stealing them. i did it on my blog and you can ask me for more details about it if you want. i like having my blog open to all readers. i've met some fun people through my blog.
Well I hope that I can continue to be able to read your blog. It's a tough decision to make I am so worried about giving out to much info on our blog so I am always debating it. Anyway good luck with making this big decision!

I've debated on going private as well. So far my solution is to not talk about where we live and not mention last names. I guess I am hoping that is a good enough solution, but you never know in this world today.
I always check in even though I stink at leaving a comment. I love seeing what you are up to so I will keep checking either way
I understand your delmia- but I say to keep it private and keep your family safe. I have heard of sick stories where child predators can use photos from your blog. I still like looking at your blog!

I read. I try to leave comments, sometimes I suck though. I totally understand both sides of being private vs not. I'm not. But sometimes I wish I was. I check my 'privates' (scandalous, eh?!) maybe once a day. My main thing was protecting my pictures to make sure people couldn't steal them, and I hope I've done an okay job with that. Other than that, I try to not be too detailed about where I live, work, shop, etc.
I guess I'm mainly just banking on being ugly boring people that nobody wants. ha!
I do read, but I admit, not as often as I check the ones with live feeds (and because you are private, you remain at the bottom of my list). I don't comment as often as I should, but I can't believe you have more than 100 people to invite. I don't even know that many people. :) I guess you got some crazy popularity gene that must not have been from your dad's side. ha!

I figure the only people who read my blog are friends and family and I doubt anyone else would even stumble upon, let alone take the time to read my blog if they wern't. Hey Charee I love your blog and am so glad that I am invited to view it. I sure am lucky! I think you should open your blog, that way I would know when you updated it with google reader :0)! Mine is open but I kind of track who is looking and you can too! I use a FREE program called statcounter that lets me know who is looking. You could look into it and see who is looking at your blog, that way you could see if you should "delete" them or not. Just an idea, good luck!
Charee I've considered going private too. It's a hard decision to make, but I do think that you need to protect your family first.

do what everyone is doing these days - having 2 blogs, one not private one that has some picks but it not too personal either and the personal stuff on the private one...love you and miss you and thanks a lot for sending me a christmas card! boo! i didnt do them this year so i guess i cant be too mad! but now i know i am not considered a "close" friend! ;D i am dying to get to logan and see you but i dont know when it will happen...
Hey Charee, sorry I haven't read your blog for a while (like over a month) i usually do my blog reading sporatically. Anyway, you should send out an email like I do so people know when you've updated. It's not that hard to do, just set up a separate "blog update" file with all those readers in it and send out a mass email to everyone. I wouldn't undo your private blog, I like mine private for my family's safety. Anyway, just a suggestion. Good luck, I do sooo love your blog :)

P.s- I have a public blog that doesn't have any pictures on it. It just states that if anyone wants an invite to my "private blog" they need to leave a comment with their email address(on the public blog comment section.) That way I can screen who gets a invite to the private blog and I know who really wants to view it!
