Grandpa SNAZZY turned 90!!

My grandpa "SNAZZY" or "Chicken-Steen" or AKA Grandpa VANDERSTEEN turned 90 last weekend!!

We had a LARGE surprise BIRTHDAY party for him with all of his loved ones! It was great!

(FYI: for those that don't follow the blog much, this particular grandpa LOVES chickens....and always has. He has had HUNDREDS over the years, and cares for them as his babies! Eggs FILL his fridge!! No joke!)

This was his invitation and this is how the weekend went down:
Grandpa is getting older and not doing so hot these days, so....who knows how much longer he will be around. Why not celebrate his life now and not later!! The whole family wanted to have a nice party for this joyous occasion.

My oldest brother that lives in OR came down with his whole family to celebrate. They were our house guests for the weekend! IT WAS A BLAST!! They pulled in the driveway about 12:30pm. We placed air mattresses anywhere and everywhere! The next morning the boys were so excited to have cousins all over to hug and play with!

We relaxed all morning and of course hit our most fav pizza joint "FREDS" and ice cream joint in town "AGGIE ICE CREAM!" (Emily, I made sure to get the poster in the background for your HOTTIE viewing pleasure again! ;))
It then was time to head down south to SLC for the party!
We were a bit early, so we walked around BEAUTIFUL temple square! Always a lovely sight!
The weather was perfect for a stroll and some pictures!

It then was time to enter the JOSEPH SMITH MEMORIAL BUILDING for the party! What a great place.

There we are on the agenda: GRANDPA SNAZZY'S 90th Birthday party dinner!

This building is ohh soo breath taking!
I love hangin' with all my silly nieces! SO CUTE!
Family photo op! Tate would not get in...
But then when we were walking away, he did!! Of course...KIDS!!
We then got seated in a BIT too fancy of a place WITH young children! Haa haa. They did ok!!
The schedule of the EVENTS for the evening! Along with CHICKEN key chains and other squeaky CHICKENS for the kids!
Once everyone was there and seated....GRANDPA showed up! We all said "surprise" and sang him Happy BIRTHDAY!"
The tears were rolling down his cheeks...and ours! I think he was happy and super overwhelmed and speechless!
He then went around and HUGGED each and every person in that room! There were lots of family and his friends that joined in on his BIG day!
We watched a film strip of TONS of pictures of him and everybody from over the years. It was a HOOT!
We took many professional pictures throughout the night! This big one was with all of his grand kids and great-grand kids.
This AMAZING piano player played all evening music from Grandpa's era!
We enjoyed the Butter Balls. The kids thought they were this chickens eggs! ;)
Yummy dinner was served! Delish Salad!
Yummy MAIN dish...AKA CHICKEN!!!! (The kids meals were chicken nuggets!! HAA HAA!)
Of course scrumptious dessert!! Before our second dessert....birthday cake!
Just chillin' and enjoyin'!
My niece ALYSSE played a lovely number on her oboe! She is a fantastic oboe player!
Then the great grand kids all sang once again HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
The sparkler 90 chicken cake smoked up the room...

...but who cares, it looked AWESOME!!!
Cute cake huh!?! CHICKENS of course!!!
DARLING!
Dad enlightened the group with PUNS of grandpa! Funny stuff!
We then socialized with cousins and family all evening!
The view from our room of the TEMPLE. It was AWESOME!
We enjoyed seeing the newest member of our family again. Little Nathan!! (FYI: My face was super red from just having a major cough attack right before! Don't make fun!)
We then loved on GRANDPA SNAZZY before saying goodbye for the evening!
We lastly hurried up top of the JSMB to see the view from the tippy top! BEAUTIFUL and worth it!!
I guess all the sky scrapers around the temple are good for one good thing, when you are in them...it is GORGEOUS!! Just imagine in a few more weeks with the Christmas lights on! AWWW!!!

What a great night!! Gotta love FAMILY~Grandpa V.~Chickens and ALL!

Happy Birthday Grandpa Vandersteen AKA "Grandpa CHICKENSTEEN" or SNAZZY!

What a fun party! Did you guys perform "The Chicken Dance" for your grandpa?! Is most of your family that came to the party from UT? Just curious. My 80 year old Grandma is always trying to get everyone together for a party/reunion but it's so hard with her family living all over the country.
